Bringing Innovation and Inspiration Into Your Life

The ‘power of innovation’ is a phrase that sounds like a corporate tactic or slogan, a secret talent worthy of only the rich and powerful.  Actually, the power of innovation is an innate quality that we all possess.  If you tend to marvel at the creativity of others, you may be surprised that you can create and innovate too.

Everyone is born with creativity.  Just watch a group of preschoolers with a box of crayons.  The potential isn’t limited to a chosen few; it’s a  shared trait that all humans possess.

Think of how long it took to learn to ride a bike, drive a car, or learn to stop making the same mistakes.  Discovering your natural innovation can take a certain amount of practice.  Innovation-energy is a mind-brain-function, that needs to be cultivated, and can become lazy if it’s not continually nurtured.  The purpose here is to share a few tips bring innovation and inspiration into your life.

Don’t listen to what other people say, but follow the beat of your own drum.  Allowing other people have undue influence over your choices will only bring cacophony to the creativity you are trying to make.

If you have a good idea, don’t waste your time and effort trying to make the wrong people understand.  Their lack of understanding can spoil your creative spirit, and the advise they offer will likely come in the form of negative feedback.

Consider many of history’s greatest geniuses.  If they had listened to their doubtful peers, we might still be living in the dark ages.

Certainly there are times when circumstances in life seems dark and dreary.  There are those times when we feel we are totally unable to take the next step or to even move in any direction.  These are exactly the times when we need to discover our inspiration.

Why inspiration?  It helps recharge our energy when all seems hopeless.  It gives us encouragement when our “spiritual well has gone dry”.

The dictionary gives different meanings to the word, “inspiration”.  But “inspiration” also includes ‘inspiration’ from the Universe-energy.

There are many sources of inspiration, here are a few:

Nature

In the middle of the worst crisis, we could take a few minutes to clear our minds and look up to the sky or the stars. A little walk in the park or in the woods will do wonders for the body, mind and spirit. Breathe in the fresh air, watch the ripples on a pond or river, get inspired by the sheer magnificence of Nature.

Music

Listen to some music you really like. The sound will take your mind to another place and you’ll find that miracles can occur.

Reading

Spend a little time absorbed in a good book. And I don’t mean just self-help or spiritual books. It could be any book that engages your mind and thoughts. For example, when things seem really gloomy to me, I’d read one of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan tales. For me, that works. For you, it might mean a totally different type of book.

Add digital/audio CD’s, videos and DVD’s, which all have been wonderful gifts from technology.  All of these items have been created through innovation and inspiration.

Friends

We are fortunate if we have a few good friends. Somebody once asked me if I told my friends about something I was very involved with. I smiled and answered, “Yes, I told them all — both of them.” Real friends are few and far between, but they can be a tremendous help to you by just being there and listening.

There are innumerable sources for inspiration and I am sure you can come up with your own list that works for you. For example, take a long drive, go fishing, bake some cookies, paint a picture or make some pottery.

The point is simple.  Use all the sources of inspiration available to get you through your tough times — to help you, not only to overcome but to prosper.

Remember, the Universe-energy is on your side. Just give it a chance by tuning in.

Happiness and good health should always be one of our our most important goals.  Most else is secondary.  Lift up your eyes and look beyond your troubles.  You’ll see a whole new, beautiful day dawning for you.  It’s there.  Go for it.

Spend time on your creative process.  Give it as much attention as possible, but don’t quit your day job.  It might take some time management slight of hand, but adjust your schedule to accommodate both your making money obligations and your creative endeavors.

Why Our approach to Innovation is Wrong

Exercise Regularly

Walk around the block, ride a bike or jog a mile or two.  When you send all those endorphin’s coursing through your veins, your brain will take notice. Exercising brings a clarity and sense of relaxation to your mind.  It’s in this state that the best ideas can seem to come from nowhere.

Write Down Your dreams

Sometimes, dreams bring thoughts that your conscious mind can barely comprehend. Vivid dreams are proof that you possess an untapped innovative power that needs to be let loose. Recording your dreams can creative the innovative spark that you need.

Find your personal style

Art lovers can always tell a Van Gogh from a Matisse.  Literary critics can identify a story by Hemingway, just from the choice of words on the paper. You have your own unique style.  People will appreciate your innovation more because it is uniquely yours, and no one else could have possibly known what you were thinking.  Allow people to see your innovation and they will appreciate how valuable an asset you are.

Forget gadgets and expensive tools

You don’t need the most expensive set of paints to produce a masterpiece, or an expensive fountain pen or laptop computer to write the next bestseller.  In fact, J.K. Rowling wrote the first book of the Harry Potter Series on bits of tissue.

Expensive cameras can’t help if you have no photographic skills.  An artist who uses fewer tools relies more on their natural abilities, and learns what works and what doesn’t.

Without passion, your tools of the trade are relatively useless.  To find your passion, think of the drive that wakes you up in the morning and keeps your positive energy flowing with enthusiasm.  Working hard and smart you will facilitate your natural talents.

It was once said that if you’re not doing something that you want to do, then you don’t really want to do it.  When the drive within really gets in gear it can make you virtually unstoppable.  That is your finding your passion.

The truth is that Inspiration can come out of nowhere, but it can also be hard to force.  You simply can’t force inspiration.  It hits when you least expect it, in unpredictable, yet at the right moment.

Be prepared for those moments of inspiration.  An idea can strike you on the subway, but if you don’t have a sheet of paper handy, you can miss out on the thought that can change the world.  Avoid these type of creative disasters.  Have a pen and paper, or your mobile device recorder within your arm’s reach at all times.

Innovation can be brought into your life, even if you believe that you haven’t a creative bone in your body.  Keep in mind that you’re search for innovation is to satisfy your expectations and meet your goals, not anyone else’s.

Soon enough, you, those around you will begin to notice your innovative and inspirational creative flair.
